The Mountain

Up.

Higher.

Higher still than

All that stretches below.

Piercing clouds and straining toward the sun,

The mountain scorns the cold, distant wastes that lie so far below.

Yet, small, determined, striving—a lone figure may reach the icy mountain peak

And surpass it, claiming as their own the wonder that is only found—up, higher still.
